VideoBlocks is an online subscription-based service that royalty-free stock video footage including looping motion backgrounds, after effects templates, special effects, production music, and sound effects other media. Subscribers ranging from small ad agencies and local news stations, to freelancers and hobbyists, to larger companies like NBC, ABC, MTV, Paramount, Fox, History, and Discovery pay a monthly fee to download unlimited multimedia clips. [3] Video Blocks uses data mining to find the type of clips that are in highest demand, acquires the distribution rights to the media, and adds it to their growing catalogue. The company also creates its own clips to add to its video library, and hires contractors to shoot specific content for its catalogue. [9]

Founded on October 12, 2010 and headquartered in Reston, VA, Video Blocks was founded byJoel Holland. Joel created Video Blocks as an alternative to other companies providing traditional stock media, which are expensive and generally only accessible to large production houses and agencies. During its first year, Video Blocks hired its first employee and brought in $1 million in revenue. In the second year, the company added another employee, and revenue doubled to $2 million. [2] In 2012, VideoBlocks was named the #4 Fastest Growing Media Company by Inc. Magazine, and made the Inc. 500 list. In 2013, VideoBlocks ranked 32nd as the fastest growing tech company in the US/Canada, and the 2nd fastest growing tech company in the DMV by Deloitte for the Fast500. In July of 2014, the company launched, a site offering over 100,000 music tracks, loops and sound effects. [2]
