Digital District is a volunteer driven 501(c)6 non-profit organization that works with community innovators to educate peers, increase creativity and encourage participation on digital platforms. The organization holds tech events including web panels, conferences, and training sessions throughout the year.
Headquartered in Washington D.C., Digital District was founded in 2008 with the mission of improving D.C.'s digital literacy. Digital District is funded through a 4 tier membership model in which members pay for access to events throughout the year. In 2014, Mayor Gray's administration planned to launch a tech initiative with the name "Digital District," but the administration renamed the initiative "Digital DC" after Digital District expressed their desire for the change. While Digital District was originally called "Social Media Club DC," the organization rebranded itself on January 1, 2014 as Digital District.
