Five Guys is a fast food restaurant chain known for its made-to-order hamburgers, hot dogs, and French fries. The chain uses only fresh 80/20 ground beef, peanut oil, and no frozen products. There are over 250,000 possible ways to order a burger at Five Guys, and customers can help themselves to free self-serve buckets of salted shell-on peanuts while they wait for their orders to arrive.  Currently Five Guys has over 1,000 locations in the United States and Canada, and over 1,500 locations in development. History

Headquartered in Fairfax County, Virginia, Five Guys is a privately owned company that was founded in 1986 by Janie and Jerry Murrell. Jerry and Janie's five sons Matt, Jim, Chad, Ben, and Tyler are the namesake of "Five Guys."[3]  Beginning in 1986 the Murrell Family ran a few restaurants in the DC Metro area and continued to build a local following for 16 years. [5] In 2002, the family's sons opted to buy out the family business and turn it into a franchise, and the chain grew rapidly. While Five Guys had only six units in Alexandria, VA in 2003, by 2005 it expanded to 75 units, with an estimated $50 million in sales.  Former Washington Redskins kicker Mark Moseley helped Five Guys expand and eventually became their director of franchise development. [4]  By the end of 2004, over 300 units were developed in the Northeast. The chain rapidly opened locations in 47 states in the United States and extended into Canada, amassing over 1,000 locations by 2012. [3]  The first UK location opened in London in July 2013 on Long Acre in Covent Garden [6] Three more locations soon opened throughout South England. [7]  In December of 2014, the company opened their first location in Scottland in Glasgow. [8]
